As March begins to pump up its madness, there are several ACC teams that need to step up their games if they want to go dancing this year. Even with its win over N.C. State, Miami didn't really help its cause. The Hurricanes beat the Wolfpack. That was supposed to happen. What wasn't impressive was that Miami let N.C. State hang around at the end (although it was clearly out of reach for the Wolfpack, who couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat in the first half.) Miami will need an impressive win over Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals to help boost its resume.
Miami might not have boosted its NCAA chances significantly by beating N.C. State, but the Hurricanes win will surely help Virginia Tech out. The Hokies needed Miami to win. A Hokies win over a top-50 team like Miami would definitely look better than one over the lowly Wolfpack when the selection committee is filling out the brackets.
